TOWIE’s Pete Wicks on dealing with his emotions: “I use humour as a defence mechanism”

Last week on The Dating Show, hosts Cici Coleman and Pete Wicks talked about men not being comfortable with showing their emotions.

When asked about how he feels on the matter, the Essex pirate said: “I think for a guy, showing your emotions, that’s probably the bravest thing you can do. I was always taught the exact same thing, you don’t cry in front of people, and I’m still guilty of things now. When people ask, ‘are you alright?’, or if I’m a bit down I go, ‘Yeah, I’m fine. I’m always alright.’ You don’t want to show that emotion because you think it’s weak.”

He continued: “I mean, I use humour as a defence mechanism a lot of times in some of the things that I do. I don’t talk about feelings very often and it probably gets me in a lot more trouble because I can’t express myself very well.”
