Real Housewives of Cheshire star Rachel Lugo has opened up about the “difficulties” of having a blended family and teased that new housewife Katie Alex will bring drama to the new series which is currently airing on ITVBe on Monday nights.
Chatting to hosts Bobby Norris and Stephen Leng on the showbiz gossip programme Access All Areas, the reality star revealed her storyline will revolve around the challenges that come with having a blended family: “We show a lot of the difficulties of being a blended family, which is interesting for people to see, because people have seen that I was married and then they watched the whole breakdown of that. Then they saw Nick ask me to go on our first holiday on the show, and they’ve kind of watched our relationship grow.”
She continued: “He’s a single parent to his two children and I’m pretty much a single parent to my five children, and how did we all come together? It’s hard and, as far as I’m concerned, I didn’t want to overstep the mark, obviously Nick’s widowed, and I’m not very good anyway at putting myself out there and putting myself forward and going, hi, what can I do? You know, I stand back and if I’m asked, I’ll do something.”
The 47-year-old went on to reflect on her relationship with Nick’s children, saying: “I’m maybe a little bit distanced from his children and that’s purely because I don’t know where the line is. I don’t want to overstep the mark. They’re not looking for a mum, you know so do I play friend? I don’t know.”
Later in the interview, Lugo spoke about new housewife Katie Alex’s bombshell entrance to the show: “Katie is our newest housewife and her husband; Lauren [Simon] used to date and live with in her younger years. It’s a long time ago but we are big kids that are just like, oh my God really, so you’ve seen his and you’ve done that, and she was like, this is ridiculous. Yes, it was ridiculous, but it was like fodder to us.”
When asked whether Katie’s entrance caused tension among the girls, Rachel quickly responded saying “you will have to watch to see that play out.”
