Last night on Access All Areas, Strictly Come Dancing star Kevin Clifton made a surprise revelation about dying girlfriend Stacey Dooley’s famous locks during lockdown and weighed in on options for the upcoming series of the BBC dance show.

Speaking to hosts Joanna Chimonides and Stephen Leng about dying his journalist girlfriend’s hair, the 37-year-old admitted: “We’re still together! I was so nervous doing that. I was more nervous doing that than performing on Strictly because I was like, ‘I can go out on Strictly the next week and sort of cover it up and do a good dance if I’ve done a bad dance, but imagine if I get Stacey Dooley’s iconic red hair wrong’!”

Talk quickly turned to Strictly Come Dancing, which Kevin announced he was quitting earlier this year after seven years on the show. Weighing in on the rumours of what format, if any, the BBC dance show will take amid the Coronavirus pandemic, the dancer said:  “I hope it does still go ahead! They’re an amazingly creative team and so I’m sure they’ll come up with some great ideas. So I’m sort of looking forward to seeing how they go about it, what the creative team are going to come up with.”

When talking of the options speculated so far, the Grimsby lad said: “Who knows how they’re going to go about it. I don’t know whether there’s going to be an audience or not, I don’t know how they go about the social distancing rules.”

When asked how the lack of audience could impact the show, Kevin explained: “I really don’t know. I sort of can’t imagine it at the moment. I know it’d affect me if there was no audience because I’m so reliant on the audience cheering and all of that stuff!”

Despite the worries surrounding the future of the upcoming series, Kevin admitted: “I’m really looking forward to it. Like I said when I was leaving, I’ve always been a fan of the show and I was a fan before I joined, so I’m sort of looking forward to watching it from the outside again and knowing a bit more about it and just enjoying it from that perspective.”
