Craig Revel Horwood spent 5 years campaigning for same-sex couples on Strictly

This week on Access All Areas, Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood joined hosts Bobby Norris and Stephen Leng to celebrate same-sex pairing happening on this year’s show.

Bobby asked, “What’s your thoughts, Craig on we see our first same-sex couple this year on Strictly?”

To which Craig responded, “Yeah, I think it’s great. I think it’s fantastic and I’ve been championing this for 5 years and it’s taken the BBC sort of 5 years of me waving the big old flag for it to happen.”

The judge goes on to discuss how this can positively affect the format of the show, particularly with the women who haven’t before had the opportunity to lead in a dance. “I mean the beauty about having 2 girls together is the pro girls never, ever get to lead. They always have to try and make their celebrity partners, who can’t really dance lead them around the dancefloor, which is a nightmare.”

Stephen revealed that rumours circulating the press have speculated Katya Jones will be the professional dancer as part of the same-sex pairing “Well rumour has it this afternoon, and I wouldn’t possibly ask you to comment, Craig but apparently it’s Katya.” Much to the joy of Craig who stated “Oh I think that would be fabulous if it is, in fact, Katya. I hope it is. I mean, she’s fabulous.”

During the show, the trio also spoke about how the new series will differ because of COVID restrictions, and Craig revealed how he often gets starstruck with some of the show’s guests.
