Drag Race UK’s Tia Kofi on being called basic: “How many drag queens have you seen dressed as an ice cream cone?”

This week on Access All Areas, Drag Race UK’s Tia Kofi joined hosts Bobby Norris and Stephen Leng to talk about her experience on the RuPaul’s franchise.

When asked about how she felt when she was called basic on the show, the 30-year old said: “It’s not particularly insulting to me. Like, I’m not sure I haven’t been called basic before. I mean, I am a gay who lives in Clapham.”

Talking about her looks, the successful drag queen said:  “I feel like I stuck to who I am as a person and just did stupid stuff that I thought was funny. Would I necessarily call that a Tia look? Well, no! Like, I loved it when Ru was like, ‘Oh, that looks like a costume you just wear at the pub.’ I was like, ‘How many drag queens have you seen dressed as an ice cream cone singing like whatever songs they do at the bar?’. It’s like, no one does that.”
