In a FUBAR exclusive, Harriet Rose chatted to Jay Sean about his newest single ‘Make My Love’, his relationship with Sean Paul and leaving Cash Money.

Sean and Paul have previously worked together on their 2010 hit single ‘Do You Remember’. “It’s been 6 or 7 years. [We] have been boys since then,” Sean said. “We have done so many shows together, random shows in South Africa, here and there. We’ve had a lot of fun on the road.”

“I did this song and I called Sean [Paul],” he said about their latest collaboration. “I called him up and said ‘bro I’m gonna need you on this one.’ I had a good feeling, he had a good feeling.”

Make My Love’ also features a sample from Maxi Priest’s Close to You, “when I was writing the song, we had reggae chords, we had the groove, I was writing the verses, I had the melody and I just sang Maxi Priest for the hook. We tried to beat it, write something else, but it felt right”

After releasing two full studio albums with Cash Money Records, he left the label in 2014 and the new song is his first after leaving the label. “I feel liberated, I can breath. I can be happy in this new chapter of life. I just knew it was time.”
