With sightings of Margot Robbie in a fat suit this week and Tom Hardy discussing the perilous consequences of his weight transformations, FUBAR decided to look at the craziest transformations actors have put themselves through all for the sake of a couple of hours of entertainment…
Tom Hardy – Bronson (2008), Warrior (2011), The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
By the time he reached his Bane physique in The Dark Knight Rises, Tom Hardy had put on 60lbs of muscle on his pre-Warrior weight.
Which he now claims is having an effect on his physicality as he gets older.
Let’s throw it back to his beginnings as a model…
Christian Bale – American Hustle (2013),The Machinist (2004), Batman Trilogy
Another metamorphic actor, probably one of the most extreme.
For his role in The Machinist, Christian Bale lost an insane 63lbs but with his roles as Batman in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy and his role in American Hustle, he packed on 50lbs.
Tell us your weight loss secrets Bale!
Tom Cruise – Tropic Thunder (2008)
While not physically tasking on Tom himself, the make-up and fat suit could be like looking into a crystal ball of a future Tom Cruise.
Heath Ledger – The Dark Knight (2008)
Heath Ledger’s role as The Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight is undoubtedly one of the most praised Joker characters of all-time.
His transformation covered all angles, from voice, mind, make-up to his own character through his method acting.
It would be rude to leave him off this list.
Jared Leto – Everything
A man of many talents, Jared Leto is probably one of the hardest grafting metamorphic actors of our time.
After gaining 60lbs for the role as John Lennon’s killer, Mark David Chapman, in Chapter 27, audiences later saw Leto lose up to 40lbs for his Oscar-winning role in Dallas Buyers Club.
It doesn’t stop there though, Leto rarely does a role without some sort of insane transformation.
Charlize Theron – Monster (2003)
Not only did she gain 30lbs for the role but she shaved her eyebrows off and went from one of the most glamorous movie stars to being almost completely unrecognisable.
Thank god the eyebrows grew back though!
