Last week on Access All Areas, Dancing On Ice finalist Saara Aalto revealed how she didn’t feel comfortable using the word ‘wife’ for describing her partner in public.
Talking to presenters Stephen Leng and Bobby Norris, the Eurovision finalist said: “It was so weird. I didn’t see that coming because I’m a public lesbian woman. So it’s not something that I’m hiding or embarrassed or ashamed about.”
She continued: “When I had that stranger in front of me and I had to explain to her that, ‘I’m still waiting for my, my’ and I couldn’t say wife. And it was like, a Pride-themed show. So all the people around me were like lesbian couples. And I was like, ‘ I don’t know!’”
“I need to talk about this because I just realised that if it happens to me and I’m completely open about my relationships. It’s like, how does it feel for somebody who is not that confident?”
