This week on Politics Matters, host Eleanor Perry was joined by Labour MP for Islington South and Finsbury, Emily Thornberry.
They chatted about getting Brexit done and holding the Conservatives accountable for their actions, including: “The political choice that was austerity and what they’ve done to public services and how the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.”
Talking of how Labour are tackling the amount of misinformation doing the rounds during the election, Emily explained: “It is really difficult. If you spend your time saying, ‘that’s just a lie’… you just give more attention to the Prime Minister.”
When asked whether Labour were expecting the campaign from the Tories to be so shameless, Emily responded: “Given the Brexit campaign, yes we were. We were well ready for it. We knew this was what was going to happen. Their message has been very strong and it doesn’t seem to matter if it’s true or not.”
