Activist and writer Phil Samba joined Calum on the show today to talk about vulnerability, racism and coming out. This episode also features Calum’s recent chat with writer John Boyne (The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas). His new novel ‘My Brother’s Name Is Jessica’ tells the story of a transgender woman from her brother’s perspective.
Joining Calum on this week’s show was singer, actor, and star of Channel 4’s Shipwrecked, Kush Khanna. They chatted about skin colour in the music industry, getting signed by a Spice Girl and they discussed your filthy Sex Confessions.
Joining Calum this week, ahead of their headline show at Soho Theatre, was London’s hottest queer musical sketch comedy quartet, Sex Shells. They held nothing back and talked about spunking on Disney characters and played a hilariously dirty game of Porn or Not Porn.
This week joining Calum was star of The Bi Life, Ryan Cleary, who came in and talked about the lack of bisexual male role models in the media and coming out on television. As Ryan stars in a new prank show on Channel 5, they played a prank themed Porn or Not Porn which brought all the lols as usual. Finally, author and YouTuber Melanie Murphy spoke to Calum about this month’s queer bookclub read: Leah on the Offbeat, and talked through your sex confessions.
Joining Calum this week was author and trans activist Charlie Craggs. She spoke about her amazing brand Nails Transphobia, her powerful book ‘To My Trans Sisters’ and her latest lobster themed campaign, #ClawsOutForTrans. They also talked about the importance of smear testing in the LGBT+ community and the transphobia and homophobia that is still experienced within the NHS.
This week Calum was joined by author and spoken word poet, Savannah Brown, to talk about her new book, The Truth About Keeping Secrets. As well as sharing a few secrets about themselves and bonding over their shared passion of disliking dating apps, the two of them also discussed the current topic of LGBT lessons being taught in schools and why it’s so important that everyone has access to this information.
This week Calum was joined by menswear and lifestyle blogger Michael Joseph Hardwick to talk about representation in the fashion industry and mental health. They played a fun ‘Twister’ edition of Porn or Not Porn and talked through your sex confessions. Also on the show was designer Carmen Liu, who spoke on the phone about her new transgender lingerie line. She explained about the huge gap in the market for this product and of the elation she, and her customers, felt when they first put the underwear on.
Legendary actor, author and LGBT+ activist Rose McGowan was live in the studio to talk to Calum about her new book ‘Brave’ and her experiences that led to the writing of her memoir. They also discussed male vs. female directors, the white male power structure, and her venture into the music industry.
We finished our final LGBT+ History Month special with a bang with Rowan Ellis and Anick in the studio talking about the forgotten letters, I and A (Intersex and Asexual). Rowan spoke about the different types of asexuality on the spectrum and the difference between asexual and aromance, and Anick told Calum all about what it means to be intersex and why ‘I’ should be included as part of LGBTQI+.
We had a fun packed show for our third LGBT+ History Month special on "disabilities". Learning disability nurse Ben Taylor spoke about the LGBT+ and sex education he gives to young people with disabilities. Sue Sanders, Chair of LGBT+ History Month, joined us on the phone to talk about this special celebratory month and all the exciting events that are going on. Finally we had the super sassy Drag Syndrome in to talk to Calum about their live shows and how they transform on stage.
For our second LGBT+ History Month special on ‘students’, we had a whole bunch of people popping in to speak to Calum. We heard from activist Philip Baldwin who told us about his experiences as a student. We had a round table discussion with Luca Mitchell from Student Pride, NUS LGBT officer Eden Ladley, and children’s author Olly Pike. Author L.C. Rosen also spoke about his new book Jack of Hearts (and Other Parts).
On the first of our LGBT History Month specials, comedian Mawaan Rizwan and activist Alexander Leon joined Calum for our ‘People of Colour’ episode. They talked representation, and the rebooted LGBT+ flag, out LGBT+ icons and if ‘people of colour’ is actually an ok term to use.
This week, celebrity stylist and fashion designer Kyle De’Volle joined Calum to chat about his YouTube channel C4KE, being brought up in the care system, and making fashion history. There was a cake themed Porn or Not Porn which got very tasty and a fresh bunch of Sex Confessions.

We also had Season 5 drag race winner Jinkx Monsoon on the phone chatting about her UK tour next year in March ‘The Ginger Snapped’ with Major Scales in March 2019.
This week on the Calum McSwiggan show we reflected on Bisexual Visibility Day with Lewis Oakley. He spoke about the challenges he faces as a bisexual man, and the ways he is pushing for visibility within the community. They were joined on the phone by Bob The Drag Queen – winner of Ru Paul’s Drag Race Season 8, who spoke of their own person activism and how being on the show has given them a platform to make a change!
London’s very own drag icon Jonny Woo joined Calum this evening to open up many conversations. Is drag misogynistic or trans-phobic? Remembering the queer comic strip and the noughties drag scene. Calum and Jonny also answered your sex confessions, talked pronouns and Jonny’s fabulous new show Un-Royal Variety.
