Today is #MerseyMonday and so ahead of tonight’s derby, FUBAR FC have put together a succession of our top goals, tackles and moments to commemorate the famous rivalry. Here’s our Top 5 derby goals.

TOP 5 GOALS

5. Steven Gerrard 2001

It is almost obligatory to include Steven Gerrard in any list about the Merseyside derby and we’ve chosen this goal at Goodison Park from Stevie that came in a 3-1 win for Liverpool.

4. Dan Gosling 2009

This goal is actually more memorable for the fact that it came during an ITV meltdown. In the 118th minute of extra time, viewers suddenly had adverts appear on screen before the match reappeared and showed Everton players celebrating. Replays finally revealed that Dan Gosling had scored a lovely winning goal in this FA Cup replay.

3. Gary McAllister 2001

In the 94th minute of an already memorable derby containing four goals, a sending off and a penalty, Gary McAllister lined up a free-kick 44-yards from goal had a shot.  The low-flying strike took everyone by surprise and gave Liverpool a 3-2 win at Goodison Park.

2. Graeme Sharp 1984

This wonderful volley is reminiscent of Jamie Vardy’s goal against Liverpool last season, but this effort from Graeme Sharp is arguably even better and won this match for Everton at Anfield.

1. Phil Jagielka 2014

This last-minute equaliser from Jags was the cleanest strike he’ll ever produce. He caught it on the half-volley from the edge of the box and it rose beautifully into the roof of Simon Mignolet’s net – incidentally, Gary Neville said that Mignolet should have saved it but two goalkeepers wouldn’t have kept this one out.
